REPORT TO:Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee <br />DATE OF MEETING:November 5, 2018 <br />SUBMITTED BY:Environmental Advisory Committee <br />PREPARED BY:Cody Boomer,Executive Assistant, Development Services,519-741- <br />2200 Ext. 7406 <br />WARD (S) INVOLVED:All <br />DATE OF REPORT:October 18, 2018 <br />REPORT NO.:DSD-18-146 <br />SUBJECT:Federal Home Energy Retrofit Incentives <br />___________________________________________________________________________ <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />jurisdiction to promote energy conservation, emissions reductions and cleaner air <br />through its many plans, policies, programs and practices supported by the <br />Kitchener Strategic Pla <br />AND WHEREAS the City has unanimously endorsed a community greenhouse gas <br />reduction target of80% below 2010 levelsby 2050; <br />AND WHEREAShome energy retrofit programs achieve greater savings and <br />greater greenhouse gas reductions; <br />AND WHEREAShome energy retrofits generate jobs in the green sector; <br />AND WHEREAShome energy retrofit incentives and rebates leverage additional <br />private investment; <br />THEREFOREBE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor on behalf of City Councilbe directed <br />to forward this resolution to the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau,Prime Minister <br />of Canadaand the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi,Minister of Natural Resources,to <br />establish a federal residential retrofit incentive program in the Province of Ontario. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In June of 2018, the provincial government of Ontario closed a number of home energy incentive <br />programs. Discontinuing these programs removes the thousands of dollars inavailableincentive <br />for residents to retrofit and upgrade their homes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
