Box 1118 <br />Kitchener, ON N2G 4G7 <br />Phone: 519-741-2200 x 7809 Fax: 519-741-2705 <br />Christine.tarling@kitchener.ca <br /> <br />Whereas on April 9 the Region of Waterloo, by committee resolution, identified 150 <br /> <br /> <br />Whereas the City of Kitchener has consistently expressed concerns that 150 Duke <br />St W is poorly situated relative to the largest residential population (more than <br />double the size of the other two locations), sensitive uses within 100 metres (i.e., <br />two high schools, three child care facilities, one post-secondary school, etc.), and <br />significant public gathering places; and further, <br /> <br />within Kitchener is 105 Victoria St N for the following reasons: <br /> <br /> has the lowest impact on the surrounding residential population; <br /> impacts the fewest sensitive uses (i.e., schools, day care facilities, etc.); <br /> not within close proximity to significant public gathering places; <br /> well situated relative to other social service supports; <br /> accessible by transit services and other key routes; <br /> will allow for a purpose-built facility to deliver this service in an optimal <br />manner; and, <br /> the vacant lands are situated in an area of demonstrated need and are <br />under the ownership of the Region of Waterloo; <br /> <br />Be it resolved that the City of Kitchener support the establishment of a <br />Consumption and Treatment Services location within downtown Kitchener subject <br />to the following: <br /> <br /> That the City of Kitchener not support an application to the provincial <br />government for funding to operate Consumption and Treatment Services <br />at the location of 150 Duke St W; and, <br /> That Regional Council be requested to consider 105 Victoria St N as the <br />Service and that the Council of the City of Kitchener express its support for <br />an application to the provincial government in this location. <br /> <br />Be it further resolved that the City of Kitchener support the establishment of a <br />temporary Consumption and Treatment Services site in an appropriate location <br />within the City of Kitchener for a period of up to twenty-four months as an interim <br />measure pending the completion of the permanent site. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Accessible formats and communication supports are available upon request.
