1.DRAFT 2021BUDGET –PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Councillor S. Davey welcomed members and advised this special meeting was being held to
receive input with respect to the draft 2021Budget, stating there has been significant public
engagement within the Budget process to date.
Mary Jane Patterson, Executive Director, Reep Green Solutions,was in attendance to speakin
support of three city-initiatives outlined in the 2021 budget: the sustainable urban forestry,
downtown cycling grid, and the proposed staffing to lead the City’s equity, diversity and inclusion
program. M. Patterson spoke to the importance of protecting the environment and the need for
continued investment in keepingup the momentum on these three key initiatives.
Tova Davidson, Executive Director, Sustainable Waterloo Region,was in attendance to speak
in support of investments that will lead to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050. T.
Davidson highlighted zero-carbon building retrofits; support for local businesses; and, a mode
shift in transportation as key sustainable investments.
