1. Bike Month recap
From: Ilektra Sota, Darren Kropf, Ivan Balaban, city staff
Overview
Bike Month is celebrated annually in June by municipalities, organizations and
workplaces. Bike Month is an opportunity for people to try riding a bike for the first time,
learn new skills, or simply have fun and connect with new people. Bike Festivities and
the Family Bike Show occurred this past weekend and a Pride Ride is being hosted on
June 17. Special thanks to volunteers J. Orita, E. Bennet, V. Hand and A. Simidzija for
helping out!
Expectations of Committee
For discussion. Did you attend? What went well? What could be improved next time?
2. Slow Streets
From: Ivan Balaban, city staff
Overview
In response to urgent needs caused by the pandemic, Slow Streets were implemented
in 2020 and 2021. Slow Streets were a temporary change to city streets to create
slower and safer neighbourhood streets that are more comfortable for walking, rolling
and biking. Streets were closed to through traffic, meaning only emergency vehicles,
maintenance vehicles, delivery vehicles and people who live on the streets are intended
to have access. Staff has evaluated the program and will share the results with the
committee.
Expectations of Committee
For information and discussion.
3. Bike Parking
From: Committee members
Overview
On April 12, 2022, the committee passed a motion ““That staff be requested to
investigate potential options to fund and implement more bike parking and report back
to the committee.”
City staff reviewed the request and suggest further discussion with the committee. It is
recommended that the committee, with assistance by city staff, prepare a memo or
report that advises Council on the need for a bike parking program/funding mechanism.
