SUBJECT:
COMPASS KITCHENER - NEW MEMBER
RECOMMENDATION:
That Azam Fouk Aladeh be appointed to Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee for a term to
expire November 30, 2010.
REPORT:
Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee Terms of Reference (August 2009) detail a committee
composition of no less than 8 and no more than 12 community members, supported by City of
Kitchener staff, and seeks to have diverse representation reflective of the current community
context and the City’s demographic make-up. Citizen members represent various interests,
including healthy community sectors (environmental, economic, cultural and social), and specific
population segments (eg., youth, racialized groups, older adults, etc).
Committee membership is currently at 9 representatives. Recruitment efforts focused on
securing representation from arts and culture, youth and/or newcomer populations, in light of
current City priorities and gaps in representation at the table.
Azam Fouk Aladeh’s appointment is strongly endorsed by the committee, as he brings a very
strong tie to and passion for the local art scene, most recently through leadership of the
Multicultural Cinema Club.
