BACKGROUND: Chapter 712 (Cross Bows – Long-Bows) was enacted in 1991. Schedule A to that by-law is a map indicating the areas within the municipality where hunting with cross-bows and long-bows is permitted. Since 1991 the City has grown substantially and Development and Technical Services staff routinely review anticipated growth in areas in proximity to the area of the City where such hunting is permitted. As a result, Schedule A of the Chapter is reviewed and revised accordingly. REPORT: Bow hunting is generally accepted as a measure to help control the deer population with the municipality. However, it is staff’s position that such hunting is incompatible with the extended residential development. Planning staff have reviewed the existing Schedule A to redefine the permitted area. The attached map extends the prohibited area to include those areas where development has occurred and those areas where development is planned within 3 years. The existing Schedule A map is also attached to this report. î ó ï FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: Based on actual and anticipated development in proximity to the lands within the City where cross-bow or long-bow hunting is permitted, staff feel it is appropriate to amend Schedule A to Chapter 712 (Cross-Bows – Long-Bows) to decrease the size of the area in which hunting is permitted. WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to amend Chapter 712 of The City of Kitchener Municipal Code as adopted by By-law 88-100; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kitchener enacts as follows: 1. Chapter 712 of The City of Kitchener Municipal Code is hereby amended by deleting “Schedule ‘A’ – Permitted Area” and the attached “Schedule ‘A’ – Permitted Area” is substituted therefor.
