DELEGATION
3.0Ontario Crafts Council (OCC), and its upcoming exhibition: Mary Calarco, SW Ontario
Regional Coordinator
OCC: non-profit group, focused on high end craft (akin to fine art and design), publishes
?
Studio Magazine.
Based in Toronto. Serves three regions: Eastern, South Western (Mary’s territory), and
?
Northern Ontario.
South West region has 200 members, province-wide, OCC has approx. 5,000 members,
?
worldwide OCC reaches approx. 10,000
Regional Wish List:
?
Fine craft category in KW Arts awards
o
One craft exhibition added to annual Rotunda Gallery rotation
o
Craft map for Waterloo Wellington
o
Satellite location of the Guild Shop (OCC retail location in Yorkville) or temporary
o
pop-up store for craftspeople to sell their work to public
“Masterworks South West” is OCC South West’s 2010 travelling exhibition of juried crafts.
?
Media: wood, glass, fiber, metal, clay
o
101 submissions, about 40 will be part of exhibition
o
Visiting 5 locations: Owen Sound, Windsor, Guelph, Orton (north-west of Erin),
o
Tilsonburg
Kitchener City Hall Rotunda was a desired location, but logistics/timing/
o
appropriateness of space made is unfeasible.
Goal is for “Masterworks South West” travelling exhibition to occur every 2-3 years
o
Discussion:
Regarding craft category in KW Arts Awards, OCC South West could approach the Awards to
?
make this request
Still may be opportunities for the Masterworks South West 2010 travelling exhibition to
?
appear in this region, timing of creation of promotional materials makes this a challenge to
orchestrate
No intention to find a permanent home for the works in the exhibition, as work will be for
?
sale
