REPORT NO.: CRPS-10-063
SUBJECT: REQUEST TO SELL FOOD & MERCHANDISE IN VICTORIA
PARK -JULY 10, 2010 -NON-VIOLENCE FESTIVAL
RECOMMENDATION:
That the request of the Non-Violence Festival to sell food and merchandise in Victoria Park on
July 10, 2010 be approved, provided the necessary licences, including Health approval is
obtained; and
That the Non-Violence Festival be granted an exemption from Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of
Kitchener Municipal Code in conjunction with an event in Victoria Park on July 10, 2010 from 12
noon to 9 p.m.
BACKGROUND:
Council Policy requires Council's approval prior to a licence being issued to allow sales of food
and merchandise on City property.
REPORT:
A request has been received from Roger Albrecht on behalf of the Non-Violence Festival
requesting permission to sell food and merchandise at the Non-Violence Festival to be held at
Victoria Park on July 10, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 9 p.m. All proceeds will be used to offset the
cost of the festival.
nth regard to the noise exemption request, staff advise that there was a concern raised last
year relating to a certain aspect of the event that generated noise. Community Services staff, in
conjunction with By-law Enforcement staff, will be meeting with the event organizers to ensure
that they take the necessary steps to keep the noise at reasonable levels. This corresponds
with the procedures when dealing with potential noise issues in Victoria Park, as was identified
to Council in a previous report.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
