Gosse, Director of Legislated Services/City Clerk PREPARED BY: Patricia Harris, Manager of Licensing WARD(S) INVOLVED: 4 DATE OF REPORT: April 16, 2010 REPORT NO.: CRPS-10-050 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR COMMUNITY FESTIVAL DESIGNATION - OUR LADY OF FATIMA FESTIVAL -SEPTEMBER 4 & 5 - 1548 FISCHER HALLMAN ROAD RECOMMENDATION: That the City of Kitchener has no objection to a liquor licence being issued to Our Lady of Fatima Festival Committee for an event to be held September 4 & 5, 2010 at 1548 Fischer- Hallman Road, Kitchener, provided a building permit is obtained fro the erection of any .tents; and further, That the event be declared a "Community Festival" for the purpose of applying for a liquor licence, since this is a traditional Portuguese celebration of their heritage that promotes unity and understanding within our community. BACKGROUND: A Council Resolution is required prior. to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission issuing a Liquor Licence for this event. A similar request was approved by Council last year. REPORT: Correspondence has been received from Leonard Melo, Festival Committee Leader, requesting Council to designate this event as a "Community Festival". They advise that this is a traditional Portuguese religious celebration of their heritage that promotes unity and understanding within their community. No problems have been experience with this event in previous years. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None ACKNOWLEDGED BY: Troy Speck, General Manager of Corporate Services
