EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - CANADIAN
CANCER SOCIETY - RELAY FOR LIFE
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to
the Canadian Cancer Society, Waterloo Region Unit, for their Relay For Life Event at
Resurrection High School between the hours of 9 A.M. on June 18, and 12 noon on June 19,
2010.
BACKGROUND:
The Waterloo Region Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society is organizing their annual Relay For
Life fundraiser at Resurrection High School on June 18 and 19, 2010. The event will take place
outside, thus they are requesting an exemption from the City’s Noise By-law (Chapter 450).
REPORT:
This fundraising event has happened for several years at local high schools. Last year’s event
was also held at Resurrection High School. Staff do not have a record of any noise concerns
raised during last year’s event at this location, nor at any of the previous events.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None identified at this time.

CONCLUSION:
Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, the By-law Enforcement Division does not
object to this request for an exemption.
