SUBJECT:
EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - JOHN HELLENS,
177 ROYAL ORCHARD DRIVE
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to
John Hellens for a wedding party at his residence at 177 Royal Orchard Drive, on July 10, 2010,
between the hours of 3 PM and 9 PM.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. John Hellens is hosting a small wedding ceremony and reception at his residence on July
10, 2010. There will be some activity outside. Thus, he is requesting an exemption from
Chapter 450 (Noise).
REPORT:
Mr. Hellens advises that the gathering will be relatively small, with approximately 40 people
attending. He also advises that the gathering should wind down around 9 PM that evening. No
live music will be playing. He advises that he will be contacting his adjacent neighbours to
advise them of the event beforehand. He has also provided information for an on-site contact
person in the event that staff need to contact someone.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None identified at this time.

CONCLUSION:
Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, the By-law Enforcement Division does not
object to this request for an exemption.
