HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRPS-10-112 - Noise Exemption Request - Wyandotte WarriorsREPORT TO: Mayor Zehr and Members of Council DATE OF MEETING: June 28, 2010 SUBMITTED BY: Troy Speck, General Manager of Corporate Services PREPARED BY: Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement WARD(S) INVOLVED: Chicopee-Grand River DATE OF REPORT: June 22, 2009 REPORT NO.: CRPS-10-112 SUBJECT: EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) - WYANDOTTE WARRIORS, WYANDOTTE COURT RECOMMENDATION: That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to the Wyandotte Warriors for a street party on Wyandotte Court on August 21, 2010, between the hours of 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. BACKGROUND: The Wyandotte Warriors is a group of residents who reside on Wyandotte Court. This group has held a street party on the court for the past 3 years, as part of the Festival of Neighbourhoods. The event includes a street sale, kids games, a road hockey game, a barbecue, some outdoor music and a children's movie. Last year was the first year that the group received a noise by-law exemption. REPORT: In 2008, 1 noise complaint was received regarding this annual event. Staff do not have a record of complaints registered with the event in the 2 years previous to that and there is no record of a complaint received with regard to last year's event. In addition, the group will be notifying the adjacent residential area in advance of the event. The group has contacted the Transportation Planning Division with respect to the necessary approvals to use the City street for the event. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: 6-1 No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: Based on the circumstances surrounding this annual request, the By-law Enforcement Division does not object to this request for an exemption.
