REPORT
REPORT TO: Mayor Carl Zehr & Members of Council
DATE OF MEETING: October 4, 2010
SUBMITTED BY: Dan Chapman
PREPARED BY: Wally Malcolm
WARD(S) INVOLVED: N/A
DATE OF REPORT: October 1, 2010
REPORT NO.: FIN-10-154
SUBJECT: Hydrovac Excavating Services Purchase Order Extension
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT staff be authorized to increase purchase order #900391 to Super Sucker Hydro Vac
Service Inc from $121,000 to $221,000 plus HST to be funded from within the various
approved operating budget accounts.
BACKGROUND:
In December 2009, Council approved a staff recommendation to award the tender for Hydrovac
Excavating Services to Super Sucker Hydro Vac Service Inc with an option to renew for four
additional one year periods. Hydrovac excavation is a no dig technology enabling underground
infrastructure to be exposed for maintenance and repair. The use of a hydrovac vehicle has
improved efficiencies enabling staff to perform more repairs in a one day period.
REPORT:
The hydro vac truck is used on an as needed basis and mainly for water curb stop repairs to
meet our customers ever growing needs and requests. Due to the aging infrastructure and
expanding city growth, the use of this service has exceeded expectations. An extension of the
purchase order is being requested in order to be able to continue providing this service to the
end of this year.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funding will be provided from various operating accounts as required.
