SUBJECT:
7705I MULTINET MONITORING UPGRADE RECEIVER
PURCHASE
RECOMMENDATION:
“That the Purchase of 7705i MultiNet Monitoring Receiver be approved from a
single source provider, namely AES Corporation IntelliNet for Alarm Monitoring.”
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Kitchener Fire, Direct Detect Division’s existing receiver equipment has now exceeded
its service life expectations and it is necessary to upgrade the hardware to ensure the
alarm monitoring system remains operational and thereby maintain service
7705i MultiNet Monitoring Receiver
expectations. The is used in situations where
alarm signals from one or more AES-IntelliNet wireless radio network needs to be
received and managed centrally. Alarm signals are communicated via transceiver radio
to a central receiving point and relayed via the Internet to the Emergency Monitoring
Station to the 7705i central receiver.
The new technology has the capabilities to expand the coverage area and incorporates a
fully automated redundancy system which switches to back up without a technician on site.
The system, replacement parts and technical support are readily available. It is
recommended that Council approve the purchase of the 7705i MultiNet Monitoring Receiver
from AES Corporation. Larry Gordon, Director of Supply Services, concurs with the above
recommendation.

BACKGROUND:
Currently, the Kitchener Fire, Direct Detect monitoring system utilizes an “AES
Receiver” which is approximately 8 years old. The service life of this hardware has
been reached and is starting to fail. The technology of that time has been surpassed
and offers no means of expansion. The system does have a redundancy, however a
technician must be on site to place the unit in stand-by and activate secondary. The
product is no longer available and if a failure occurs, the unit would be sent out of the
country (to the United States) for repair, if practical or repairable. Technical support for
the existing unit is only available until December 31, 2011.
