HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIN-10-163 -T10-105 Crushing of Reclaimed Concretel REPORT REPORT TO: Mayor Carl Zehr & Members of Council DATE OF MEETING: 2010-11-15 SUBMITTED BY: Larry Gordon, Director of Supply Services PREPARED BY: Steve Rudak, Buyer (2213) WARD(S) INVOLVED: N/A DATE OF REPORT: 2010-10-29 REPORT NO: FIN 10-163 SUBJECT: T10-105 -Crushing of Reclaimed Concrete RECOMMENDATION: That tender T10-105, Crushing of Reclaimed Concrete, be awarded to Artscrushing & Recycling Inc., London, Ontario, at their tendered price of $222,500., plus H.S.T. of $28,925., for a total of $251,425. BACKGROUND: Concrete and asphalt materials removed from City projects are stockpiled at the Battler Yards and when sufficient quantities are available, the City contracts for the crushing of the materials and the product is inventoried to be used on various City projects as required. The benefits of this process are that materials can be re-used rather than paying to have them disposed of, we have less costly materials available for City projects and the re-use of the materials is environmentally responsible. The spend from the previous tender of 2008/2009 was $244,125.00. REPORT: Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, on the City of Kitchener website and the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System. Ten (10) potential bidders downloaded the tender documents, and by the closing date of Thursday September 23, 2010, five (5) tenders had been received. 1 ii) - 1 The following tenders were received: Artscrushing & Recycling Inc. London ON Guelph ON Dundas ON Peterborough ON Gormley ON $ 251,425.00 $ 255,662.50 $ 264,420.00 $ 278, 545.00 $ 286,172.50 The tenders were reviewed by R. Zarin, Supervisor, Sewer Repairs/Construction & Winter Maintenance, and S. Rudak, Buyer, who concur with the above recommendation. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The service cost will be received in the Inventory Holding Account against stock number 0908014 -Recycled Aggregates and charged out to various cost centres as used in 2010/2011.
