HomeMy WebLinkAboutFCS - City of Kitchener Official Plan Review - PresentationOfficial Plan Review - City of KitchenerPage 1of 3 Official Plan Review The City of Kitchener is currently reviewing and updating our Official Plan. The Province of Ontario requires municipalities to bring their Official Plans into conformity with the new legislation and policies of the Places to Grow Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe -- new measures for how communities should be planned and designed. They promote sustainability principles, transit supportive development, intensification of downtown and other appropriate areas, good urban design, and complete communities. Through Kitchener city council's approval of the Kitchener Growth Management Strategy in 2009, a major component of reviewing the provincial direction at the local level is now complete -- providing recommended actions for preparing the necessary studies to comply with Places to Grow and some of the basis for the new Official Plan. Our new plan must also conform to the Region of Waterloo's new Official Plan (ROP). Supporting Projects Although Kitchener completed several major policy directions that could influence the Official Plan, such as the Plan for a Healthy Kitchener and the Strategic Plan for the Environment update, there are still many other master plans and supporting studies required to be undertaken. Additional public meetings will be scheduled for 2011 along with a review by the City's Advisory Committees.
