REQUEST TO SELL FOOD AND ALCOHOL - GREEK
FOOD FESTIVAL - JUNE 11 & 12, 2011 AT 527
BRIDGEPORT ROAD EAST
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Greek Orthodox Community of Saints Peter and Paul Church Kitchener-
Waterloo & District, be granted permission to operate a Place of Refreshment on their
premises at 527 Bridgeport Road East, Kitchener on June 11 & 12, 2011, provided the
necessary licence is obtained, including Health and Fire approval, and further,
That since this Festival is a celebration of our ethnic diversity it be declared a
“Community Festival.”
BACKGROUND:
Prior to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issuing a liquor licence for this
type of event a resolution of Council is required recognizing the festival as a “Community
Festival”. Applicants for a community festival designation must be a registered charity or non-
profit corporation, or association organized to promote charitable, educational, religious or
community objects.
REPORT:
Correspondence has been received from Paul Kostas, Co-Chairman of the Greek Food
Festival, requesting permission to hold a festival at the church on June 11 & 12, 2011. They are
requesting permission to sell food, beverages, including liquor, and crafts.
Similar requests have been approved in the past.

The City wants to provide a community that acknowledges and embraces ethnic, cultural and
social differences.
