The city is currently developing a new Transportation Master Plan that will guide
the city as it strives to manage growing transportation demand. The master plan
is a key tool in continuing to build a healthy, vibrant and sustainable city, helping
to provide direction for the development of better pedestrian, cycling, transit and
roadway infrastructure. Some of the objectives of the study include:
Develop guiding transportation policies for subjects ranging from traffic
control (traffic signals, roundabouts) through to parking requirements, road
noise mitigation and truck route management
Provide planning direction to the year 2031 with short term, medium term,
and long term goals
Provide transportation planning direction for enhanced alternative modes
of transportation (walking, cycling, and transit)
Describe how to develop an integrated system that supports Regional bus
and planned rapid transit
Describe how to develop a city that is less reliant on cars
The new master plan will serve as a component of the revised City of Kitchener
Official Plan, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.
