CYCLING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES JUNE 8, 2010 - - CITY OF KITCHENER 2 CYCLING MASTER PLAN 4. The Cycling Master Plan is 90% complete and Mr. Schirm would like comments from committee members by June 18th. Part of the challenge has been having input from the two tiers of government and, on a positive note, this provides an opportunity to look at co-funding. Concentrating on connectivity throughout the city and trying to utilize quieter streets whereby people can share roads more comfortably have been network priorities. The sign project has also been noted as a priority. ACTIONMr. R. Kenyon to draft a clear and explicit letter to Council requesting that they forward a letter indicating that this legislation is a step in the right direction. MEDIA TREATMENT OF CYCLING ISSUES 7. Mr. T. Kenyon suggested that, partly because of the aforementioned article and other cycling articles that Mr. Kenyon brought and referenced at the meeting, committee members should get actively involved by writing letters and/or articles but was not sure if this could be done on behalf of the committee or as individuals and Mr. Schirm was to obtain clarification on this. CYCLING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES JUNE 8, 2010 - - CITY OF KITCHENER 3 USE OF WASTE SIGN MATERIAL FOR BICYCLE REFLECTIVE TAPE 8. Mr. D. Class has investigated and confirmed that the remaining outside edges of the reflective road signs prepared in the sign shop are being discarded as waste. This is very expensive material that could be used in other ways, for example, cut in strips and taken to schools to be used as reflective tape on bicycles. Mr. R. Schirm checked with the Sign Shop and the sign shop staff have agreed to give the remnants to this committee as long as the committee provides a container and arranges to pick up the material. After considerable discussion, it was decided that Mr. D. Class and Mr. T. Mueller will form a sub- committee to investigate further and get back to this committee with their findings. th The next C.A.C. meeting will be held September 14. ADJOURNMENT 9.
