HomeMy WebLinkAboutINS-11-012 - All-Way Stop Traffic Control - Wabanaki Dr at Goodrich DrREPORT TO:Community and Infrastructure Services Committee DATE OF MEETING: February 7, 2011 SUBMITTED BY: John McBride, Director of Transportation Planning PREPARED BY: Dave Seller, Traffic Technologist (741-2369) WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 3 DATE OF REPORT: February 1, 2011 REPORT NO.: INS-11-012 SUBJECT: ALL-WAY STOP TRAFFIC CONTROL – WABANAKI DRIVE AT GOODRICH DRIVE RECOMMENDATIONS: That an all-way stop be installed at the intersection of Wabanaki Drive at Goodrich Drive; and further, That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly. BACKGROUND: As part of the Wabanaki Drive Extension from Goodrich Drive to Wilson Avenue, the work included the construction of a new two (2) lane secondary arterial roadway complete with urban cross-section (including curb and gutter, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, travel lanes and boulevards), new storm sewer and services and stormwater management pond, new sanitary sewer services and new watermain, services and appurtenances. REPORT: Prior to the extension of Wabanaki Drive, Goodrich Drive at Wabanaki Drive operated as a three legged all-way stop intersection. After the completion of the Wabanaki Drive extension, Goodrich Drive at Wabanaki Drive functions as a four legged intersection. Both Goodrich Drive and Wabanaki Drive are anticipated to carry significant volumes of traffic servicing this local industrial area. Due to the intersection of Goodrich Drive at Wabanaki Drive now functioning as an all-way stop control, along with the significant traffic volumes anticipated on both Goodrich Drive and Wabanaki Drive, it is recommended that this intersection continue to be controlled with an all-way stop. Intersection operations will be monitored at this location to ensure the most appropriate application of traffic control is maintained. ê ó ï ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $200 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget.
