DATE OF MEETING:
February 7, 2011
SUBMITTED BY: John McBride, Director of Transportation Planning
PREPARED BY:
Dave Seller, Traffic Technologist (741-2369)
WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 3
DATE OF REPORT: February 1, 2011
REPORT NO.:
INS-11-012
SUBJECT:
ALL-WAY STOP TRAFFIC CONTROL – WABANAKI DRIVE
AT GOODRICH DRIVE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That an all-way stop be installed at the intersection of Wabanaki Drive at Goodrich Drive;
and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
As part of the Wabanaki Drive Extension from Goodrich Drive to Wilson Avenue, the work
included the construction of a new two (2) lane secondary arterial roadway complete with urban
cross-section (including curb and gutter, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, travel lanes and boulevards),
new storm sewer and services and stormwater management pond, new sanitary sewer services
and new watermain, services and appurtenances.
REPORT:
Prior to the extension of Wabanaki Drive, Goodrich Drive at Wabanaki Drive operated as a three
legged all-way stop intersection. After the completion of the Wabanaki Drive extension, Goodrich
Drive at Wabanaki Drive functions as a four legged intersection.
Both Goodrich Drive and Wabanaki Drive are anticipated to carry significant volumes of traffic
servicing this local industrial area. Due to the intersection of Goodrich Drive at Wabanaki Drive
now functioning as an all-way stop control, along with the significant traffic volumes anticipated on
both Goodrich Drive and Wabanaki Drive, it is recommended that this intersection continue to be
controlled with an all-way stop.
Intersection operations will be monitored at this location to ensure the most appropriate
application of traffic control is maintained.
