BACKGROUND: Transportation Planning has received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Schneider Avenue. The request cited concerns about vehicles parking along the north side of Schneider Avenue in certain areas, and this parking makes accessing residential driveways difficult and unsafe. REPORT: Currently, on-street parking is permitted on the north side of Schneider Avenue from a point fifteen (15) metres west of David Street to the entrance to Victoria Park for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours. Parking is prohibited at anytime on the south side of Schneider Avenue. These regulations are outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007- 138. In order to address this request, Transportation Planning is proposing to extend the on-street parking prohibition on the north side of Schneider Avenue to a point thirty-six (36) metres west of David Street, as per the attached plan. This will allow for improved access to and from residential driveways. However, please be advised that a parking prohibition would result in the loss of approximately one (1) available on-street parking space è ó ï ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $200 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Residents along Schneider Avenue have been notified regarding the proposed parking changes and have no concerns with this proposal.
