In order to address this request, Transportation Planning has surveyed the residents regarding a
proposal to allow on-street parking on the south side of Michael Street from a point 27 metres east
of Victoria Street South to a point 112 metres east thereof. Additionally, it is proposed that this
parking be limited to two (2) hours (see attached diagram). The survey results are as follows:
In favour of allowing two hour parking on the south side: 5 (63%)
In favour of leaving the current regulation as is: 3 (37%)
TOTAL 8 out of 13 – (62% responded)
As indicated above, five (5) out of eight (8) respondents, or 63%, are in favour of extending the
current on-street parking regulation on the south side (odd number side) of Michael Street from
a point 27 metres east of Victoria Street South to a point 112 metres east thereof, while
maintaining that parking be prohibited at anytime on the north side.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including
all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” By working with the
neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $300 and will be taken from the
existing sign maintenance budget.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
In January 2011, residents along Michael Street between Victoria Street South and Linden
Avenue were surveyed regarding the proposed parking changes. Their comments have been
incorporated in this report.
