HomeMy WebLinkAboutINS-11-031- Off-Street Parking - Francis StREPORT TO:Community and Infrastructure Services Committee DATE OF MEETING: March 21, 2011 SUBMITTED BY: John McBride, Director of Transportation Planning PREPARED BY: Tony Konstantinidis, Supervisor of Parking (741-3400 X3218) WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 10 DATE OF REPORT: March 10, 2011 REPORT NO.: INS-11-031 SUBJECT: OFF-STREET PARKING – FRANCIS ST LOT 5 RECOMMENDATIONS: That Francis Street North (Lot 5) be converted from an exclusive monthly parking facility to a shared use facility, providing both monthly and hourly public parking; and further, That the Municipal Off-street By-law be amended accordingly. BACKGROUND: Francis Street North (Lot 5) is a City operated parking facility located on the north/east corner of King Street West and Francis Street north, adjacent to McCabe’s Irish Pub and Grill. There are currently 23 spaces in this surface lot, all of which are dedicated to monthly parking (See Attachment). REPORT: The Parking Enterprise has been approached by the management of McCabe’s Irish Pub and Grill to consider converting 4 of the 23 spaces into hourly spaces in order to accommodate short stay patrons to the immediate area. In order to maximize the use of all 23 spaces, the Parking Enterprise has agreed to convert the lot into a shared use facility, offering both monthly and hourly parking. To maintain uniformity across the downtown and meet the needs of visitors to the area, the four (4) hourly spaces will have a three (3) hour maximum time limit, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. The applicable hourly fee will be $2.00 per hour as per the 2011 Fees and Charges approved by Council on February 14, 2011. ë ó ï ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of a Dynamic Downtown. “Continue with economic strategies as a solid approach to redeveloping the downtown’s economic health and well being.” FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The cost of the material required to install two (2) meter posts and to revise the existing rate board sign will be approximately $250.00 and will be taken out of the Parking operating budget.
