BACKGROUND: Hydrovac excavation is a no dig technology enabling underground infrastructure to be exposed for maintenance and repair. Where in the past the requirement to carry out such repairs was a backhoe and dump trucks, we now use a hydrovac vehicle for repairing water or gas mains, services and valve boxes (water and gas), and performing anode installations. The use of a hydrovac vehicle has improved efficiencies and staff may now perform double to quadruple the work in one day. There is also a cost saving in that the surface restoration area is minimized by having smaller, more localized access points. REPORT: Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, on the City of Kitchener website and the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System.
