SOCIAL GAMING EVENT – BETH JACOB
CONGREGATION – JUNE 29, 2011
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City of Kitchener has no objection to a Provincial Lottery Licence being issued
to the Beth Jacob Congregation to conduct a social gaming event at the Beth Jacob
Synagogue, 161 Stirling Avenue South, Kitchener, on June 29, 2011.
BACKGROUND:
Provincial Regulations require that Social Gaming Events must be approved by Council before a
Provincial Lottery licence will be issued by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario
(AGCO).
REPORT:
A request has been received from the Beth Jacob Congregation for permission to hold a social
gaming event on June 29, 2011 at the Beth Jacob Synagogue, 161 Stirling Avenue South,
Kitchener.
A social gaming event is a lottery event conducted as a secondary or complementary
component of a social occasion such as a dinner or a dance that is sponsored by the licensee of
the Social Gaming Event. This event will include blackjack tables and a wheel of fortune.
The proceeds from the Social Gaming Event will be donated to the Grand River Hospital, St.
Mary’s Hospital and Beth Jacob Congregation.
Similar requests by the Beth Jacob Congregation have been approved by Council for the past
several years.
