Gosse, 2809 WARD(S) INVOLVED: n/a DATE OF REPORT: June 20, 2011 REPORT NO.: FCS-11-147 SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO FILL VACANCY -KITCHENER PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: That be appointed to the Kitchener Public Library Board for the remainder of the current term ending November 30, 2014. BACKGROUND: Ms. Jude Doble was appointed to the Kitchener Public Library (KPL) Board in 2010 for a term to end November 30, 2014. Ms. Doble submitted her letter of resignation in April, 2011, creating a vacancy on the Board. Section 12 of the Public Libraries Act requires the appointing council to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term. REPORT: Notice of Ms. Doble's resignation was submitted to the City Clerk in April, 2011 subsequently an advertisement to fill the vacancy was placed in The Record, on the City's and KPL's web site and a social media campaign was initiated. Additionally, information and applications were displayed in the library branches and letters were sent to those citizens that applied in 2010 but were not appointed. The Public Libraries Act requires that persons appointed to a library board must be at least 18 years of age, a Canadian Citizen, a resident of the municipality and, not employed by the library or the municipality. As of the deadline date, the City received 4 applications from qualified candidates. Due to the fact that the applications contain personal information, they have been circulated to members of council under separate cover.
