BACKGROUND: Transportation Planning has received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Simeon Street. Since the reconstruction of Simeon Street, the roadway width has been increased slightly. As a result, it has been requested to now permit on-street parking on the north side of Simeon Street in the area of Frederick Street. REPORT: At the present time, on-street parking is prohibited on the north side of Simeon Street from Frederick Street a point 76 metres east of Frederick Street. Also, on-street parking is prohibited at any time on the south side of Simeon Street between Frederick Street and Bingeman Street. The remainder of Simeon Street, outside of the prohibited area, permits parking for up to three (3) consecutive hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138. In order to address this request, Transportation Planning surveyed the residents in May 2011 regarding a proposal to reinstate on-street parking on the north side (even number side) of Simeon Street between Frederick Street and the property line of house # 18 & 20 for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours.
