BACKGROUND: At the November 3, 2011 meeting of the Safe & Healthy Community Advisory Committee, on motion by committee members, a resolution was passed that endorsed the appointment of Dina Etmanski as Social Planning representative. REPORT: The Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee advises Council and staff on policies, programs and services offered either directly by or in conjunction with the City of Kitchener and that relate to the overall health of the city. Specifically, the committee is to consider and advise on the municipality's role in community safety and crime prevention initiatives with an emphasis on community partnerships and collaboration. At the June 2, 2011 meeting, committee members reviewed the composition of the committee, noting that several seats remained vacant. In June 2011, Council approved the appointment of new members as Community-At-Large and Inner City representatives. In October, Council approved the appointment of a new member as a Land Use Planning representative. Also, one Community-At-Large representative resigned in June 2011, and another Community-At-Large representative resigned in October 2011. This means that there are currently six vacant seats on the committee: (1) Suburban Resident; (2) Representative from Law Enforcement; (3) Social Planning; (4) Business; (5) Community-At- Large; and (6) Community-At-Large. 1 iv) - 1 1 I~IT(~HEI~TE~,.
