REPORT NO.:
FCS-11-149
SUBJECT:
Q11-027 – Tree Stock
RECOMMENDATION:
Sheridan Nurseries, Georgetown,
That Quotation Q11-027 – Tree Stock, be awarded to
Ontario,
at their quoted price of $31,196.70, plus H.S.T. of $4,055.57, for a total price of
$35,252.27
BACKGROUND:
The Operations Division requires various bare root and container trees in the Spring and Fall to
replace trees throughout the City which have been previously removed from boulevards and City
owned road allowance.
Trees in containers are utilized due to the ease with which they can be planted. Container trees do
not require the extra equipment used to handle and plant wire basket stock. This allows staff to be
more productive by increasing the number of trees that can be planted in a comparable time frame.
The approximate annual spend based on the previous three (3) years was $45,000.
REPORT:
The quotation was advertised publicly on the City of Kitchener website. Ten (8) potential bidders
were notified of the quotation and fourteen (13) potential bidders downloaded the quotation
document. By the closing date of Friday May 20, 2011, five (5) quotations were received.
The following quotations were received:
Bid Price
John’s Nursery (a Div. of Mar-John’s Nursery Ltd) Waterloo, ON $ 30,374.40
Sheridan Nurseries Georgetown, ON $ 35,252.27*
Winkelmolen Nursery Ltd. Lynden, ON $ 35,950.12
Connon Nurseries – CBV Holdings Waterdown, ON $ 38,802.96
Connon Nurseries – Neil Vanderkruk Holdings Inc. Waterdown, ON $ 42,680.00
The lowest quotation submitted by John’s Nursery (a Div. of Mar-John’s Nursery Ltd) was for
trees in wire baskets instead of trees in containers.
Quotations were reviewed by K. Nihls, Operations Supervisor (Trees), who concurs with the
above recommendation.
