Motion: To approve the agenda as submitted. Motion/Moved by: Kevin Ballantyne and seconded by: Colin Leis, All in favour unanimous, motion passed, A ends Item: Eloard Orientation (BIA Binder2 Mar~arida AnaofMarlc Garner o Round table discussion to see if anyone had any questions regarding the binder -there were na questions. o Everyone now has a binder for them to use and contents are agreed upon and approved by the BIAS Board. Agenda Item: Financials -Kevin Ballantyne May 2019 Statements: • Kevin presentedfreviewed the m©nth end statements for May 2011 • Revenue exceeded expenses by $777.00 • City conf"rrmed the tax levy wall increase to approx. $600,000 this year • Tax rates will remain the same as 2010 -property values have increased • $33,000 Tax Recovery from the City will be going thru May 2011 • Wages and Benefits are at normal levels but expected to increase because of hiring 4 Downtown Ambassadors for the summer • Marketing Events -includes $15k sponsorship i~or the Blues FestivaP • There were no questions andfar concerns regarding May 2011 Financials. Motion: To approve the May 2011 Financials as submitted. MotionlMoved lay: Kevin l3allantyne and Seconded by: Liz Howie, all in favour, motion passed Agenda Item: Approval of Past Minutes - Maraarida Anao Board reviewed the minutes from the previous meeting May 17~h, 2011, no issues identified. • Mark Graham noted that Liz Howie did attend last months meeting and will amend accordingly. Agenda Item: Economic Development Update -Corn Bluhm • Mayfair to be developed sooner than originally expected • They hope to start end of 2011 and finish in 2Q13 • They are looking to add 3 floors to the existing building • Taya ha:~ opened up their new store downtown -They have a wonderful new location Downtown • Economic Development Symposium was held last week - it was a great turnout and great meeting • Downtown Live Program will be launched again this year -marketing materials were handed out -this year partnering will be with KOOLFM and TriGity Music - • Every Tuesday in June and hoping to do in July -Taco Tuesdays will take place this summer downtown at 113Qam on Tuesdays and Thursdays 43(} -6pm -Casa Salsa from market will be paired with music -first Tuesday taco's sold out -this event has been well received by the public -this all takes place in front of Gity Hall - KooIFM is partnering in this event as well • Mark Garner is running Random Acts of Vitality will also take place this summer -music set up randomly -random musicians popping up in different places that Mark Garner thinks is a good place for them to be.- this can be any band - at any time - at any place. Great job Mark. - BPA has proved $5k and KOOLFM has provided $1 k for a #otal of $6k • Acoustic Stage to take place periodically in front of Rare Funk and Gloss which is a nice little mix to attract some business. Adrian Darmon • A brief update was provided by Supt. Adrian Darmon New Core Sgt. Joe Stock has taken over for Shelley Hinsberger who retired. He has a lot of experience and look forward to having him on the team downtown. • A report on the 15t year of the mounted patrol has been done which was well received by the 1IVRPS Board -the mounted patrol has gone well • They ran a successful 2 day initiative regarding the sex-trade downtown and Johns -each day 5 charges were laid - a John school is looking at being run in the fall • Recommended that the BIA Ambassadors not ~be in the area of downtown near sex-trade workers • It was brought up and discussed about entry doors and exit doors at Luckys and where they are located. Aetenda Item: Key Projects Discussion -Mark Garner • KPL - to come to August Board Meeting and do a presentation and they will be doing a fundraiser and presenting their project to the Board • LRT -Vote was g - 2 in favour • Kitchener Aud - refer to FD Update • City Centre -still actively selling units and looking at shovel in the ground late 2fl11 or early 2©12 • Courthouse status -coming along great target date of 2t}13 • Halls Lane -work continues and progressing well • Parking Garage -garage is open and RFP to go out for lease space • BIA Boundary changes should be a topic of discussion in the meetings ahead and should be kept on the BIA radar. • Also on the radar of the BIA Board should be Associate Memberships for those businesses outside our boundaries.
