PREPARED BY: Tim Beckett, Fire Chief, 519 741-2926
WARD(S) INVOLVED: All
DATE OF REPORT: February 7, 2012
REPORT NO.: CSD-12-029
SUBJECT: WELLESLEY TOWNSHIP DISPATCH AGREEMENT
RENEWAL
RECOMMENDATION:
"That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute an agreement with the Corporation of
the Township of Wellesley to provide fire dispatch service to Wellesley for a term of 5
years commencing January 1, 2012, said agreement to be satisfactory to the City
Solicitor"
BACKGROUND:
The City of Kitchener has historically supplied dispatch services to the townships of Wilmot,
Woolwich and Wellesley and to the City of Waterloo. Agreements are currently in place and all
are due for renewal in 2012.
REPORT:
This agreement is a renewal of a previous 2 year agreement.
The fire department negotiated with the dispatch contract customers and has adjusted the
formula to reflect aper-call rate vs. the current rate. This per-call rate will reflect the actual
annual salaries and benefit costs of fire communications and applied using the previous year's
actual call volume.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The agreement provides for an annual fee for service of approximately $11,000 annually.
These revenues have been reflected in the 2012 operating budget. This is reflects true costs for
services used.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This aligns with E1.4 of the Effective and Efficient Government, to which we are continuing with
a source of sustainable revenue to assist in reducing the reliance on taxes.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
This is an internal operational matter and will not require community engagement.
