Subject:2011 Stormwater Management Audit
Since the implementation of the Stormwater Management Policy in 2001, the City has been
undertaking an annual audit of its stormwater management measures to determine whether the
necessary water quantity control and water quality treatment has been provided from
infill/redevelopment sites. As part of the policy, a cash-in-lieu program was created in 2001 and
applies to all redevelopment and infill sites that cannot connect to the existing quality control
facilities. The funds collected (charged on a per hectare basis) are used toward the
construction or retrofit of centralized stormwater management facilities. As part of the audit, the
amount of funds collected vs. the funds spent is reported on along with the resulting size of the
area now having stormwater management measures. Water quality monitoring is also
undertaken at various creek locations to determine the chemical and biological characteristics of
the watercourses and see if any trends develop.
The presentation will provide the results of the 2011 stormwater management audit that was
conducted and provide information on the monitoring proposed for the 2012 audit. This
information will also be presented to Council in April 2012.
