SUBMITTED BY: John McBride, Director of Transportation Services
PREPARED BY: Dave Seller, Traffic & Parking Analyst (741-2369)
WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 10
DATE OF REPORT: March 7, 2012
REPORT NO.: INS-12-030
SUBJECT: ON-STREET PARKING REGULATIONS -DANE STREET
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That parking be prohibited at anytime on the west side of Dane Street from a point 22
metres north of Crescent Street to a point 21 metres north thereof; and,
That parking be prohibited at anytime on the west side of Dane Street from a point 124
metres north of Crescent Street to a point 20 metres north thereof; and,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Services has received a request to review the existing on-street parking
regulations on Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and King Street East. The request
identified that the curved sections of this roadway are unsafe for two-way traffic when parking
occurs on one side of the roadway. As a result, it has been proposed to implement a "No
Parking" anytime regulation on the west/north side through the curved sections of the roadway.
REPORT:
Currently, on-street parking is permitted on the north/west side of Dane Street from a point 46
metres north of King Street East to a point 220 metres north thereof, for a maximum period of
three (3) consecutive hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-
138. Also, a "No Parking" anytime regulation is in place on the southleast sides of Dane Street
between King Street East to Borden Avenue North and on the west side of Dane Street from King
Street East to a point 46 metres north thereof.
Transportation Services delivered surveys to the affected residents and notified them of the
proposal to prohibit on-street parking anytime on the west/north side through the curved sections
of the roadway along Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and King Street East. The
survey results are as follows:

ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. "Work with partners, including
all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community." By working with the
neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for sign installation for the roadway is $250 and will be taken from the
existing sign maintenance budget.
COMMUNICATIONS:
In January 2012, affected residents along Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and King
Street East were surveyed regarding the proposed parking changes. Their input is incorporated
in this report.
