ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES
March 20, 2012 CITY OF KITCHENER
‘Information only’reports are useful toolsfor subgroups to share what they’ve learned with Council
(aidsCouncil’s decision-making).Reports can demonstrate subgroups’ activities alignment with the
City’s strategic plan.
DISCUSSION:
Work plan objectives were based on recommendations from previous ACAC, with additions
and priorities set by current ACAC. Council approved the work plan.
Reengaging with Council is an opportunity to confirm the committee is still on the right
track.
ACAC also attendsto Public Art Working Group business as another area of focus.
Okay for ACAC to recommend a shift in focus if it is no longer comfortable with the priorities
originally set out in the work plan.
ACAC is an advisory committee; does not program, but rather makesrecommendations to
Council (especially issues involving resourcedeployment).
ACAC’s tools: formal reports to Council (including recommendations); information-sharing
opportunities like Compass Kitchener’s all-committee meeting; committee’s minutes inform
Council and the public; one-on-one meetings with Councillors.
March 31 Compass Kitchener meeting (9:30-11:30 at School of Social Work, 100 Duke St.) is
an opportunity for all advisory committees to share work plans; uncover opportunities to
collaborate. Committee members will have opportunity to comment on future of Local
Environmental Action Fund—best way these funds could be used.
ACTION: ACAC members to RSVP to Carrie regarding attendance at Compass Kitchener meeting.
