Beginning with the drivers, and moving through the 6 pillars, the group provided comments and feedback on this initial draft Strategic Plan update. Discussion: Drivers Reference to car keys is strong, could instead suggest residents are increasing looking for other viable ? options for transportation. Numbers of people aging affects the increase in people with disabilities – not certain on this reference. ? Should any other groups be included here? Shelley clarified, aging and increase in disabilities go hand in hand. We could also include ‘an increasing recognition of other diverse groups in our community’. It was suggested the document be reviewed for consistency, to ensure each area ends on a similar note, ? as well as ‘we’ and ‘us’ usage – staff or residents, make reference consistent throughout document. Perhaps a more concise phrase could be used for the title of the Drivers section. ? Consider changing ‘Looking for assistance with Local Democracy’ to ‘Enhancing Local Democracy’. ? A possible gap was identified, the suburbs are not mentioned anywhere in this section. Perhaps mention ? relationship between the suburbs and the heart of the city. It was suggested to call democracy, engagement, and call engagement, core. ? Quality of Life ‘…what improvements were made.’ may raise questions, perhaps include examples here. ? ‘Own best kept secret’ – the committee discussed the use of this phrase, and ultimately it was suggested ? to use quotes around this phrase and ‘hidden jems’ since these were phrases pulled directly from resident feedback and mirror themes throughout feedback. January 18, 2012 CITY OF KITCHENER - 2 - ‘Important information is just a few clicks away’ – could instead simply refer to info being easy to access. ? stnd Data from 1 page should be parallel to 2 page. ? Environment Simply use ‘to carry out green initiatives’ in the last sentence, remove walking the walk. ? Important to indicate in this section that results from residents indicated Environment as the top priority. ? Include suburban connections with the transit piece. ? How we built this strategic plan diagram should also indicate community feedback was used to develop ? this full community section. The intro indicates ‘our residents told us…’ however it doesn’t indicate where. Diversity When referencing barriers – use financial instead of economic. ? Third paragraph, ‘integration’ – plain language check. ? Second and Third paragraphs, remove ‘And’ at beginning. ? Second paragraph, consider phrasing this in a more positive manner. ?
