HomeMy WebLinkAboutFCS-12-104 - T12-024 Bridge Maintenance Program 2012REPORT TO:Committee of the Whole DATE OF MEETING: 2012-06-11 SUBMITTED BY: Larry Gordon, Director of Supply Services, 2214 PREPARED BY: Larry Gordon, Director of Supply Services, 2214 WARD(S) INVOLVED: DATE OF REPORT: 2012-05-18 REPORT NO.: FCS-12-104 SUBJECT: T12-024 – Bridge Maintenance Program 2012 RECOMMENDATION: Xterra That Tender T12-024 – Bridge Maintenance Program 2012, be awarded to Construction Inc., Kitchener, Ontario at their corrected tendered price of $436,968.74, including provisional items and contingencies of $386,698., plus H.S.T. of $50,270.74, for a total of $436,968.74, and further; That the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute an agreement satisfactory to the City Solicitor. BACKGROUND: Engineering Services intends to proceed with maintenance work of existing bridges within the city. The work is required to keep the city’s bridges in a safe operating condition. To meet provincial regulation requirements bi-annual inspection of city bridges were carried out in 2010. Based on the recommendations of this report 27 bridges were selected this year for routine minor maintenance work. The main items include but are not limited to slab delamination/spall repair, concrete patching, crack sealing, chain link fence repair and realigning, sediments removal, and other miscellaneous maintenance items and associated work. The administration, design and tendering of this project has been completed by City staff, the construction administration and inspection of this project will be completed by City staff as well. Funding for the maintenance work will be from the Capital account “Road bridge repairs”. No traffic disruption is anticipated for this work as two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the project. ï ·ª÷ ó ï REPORT: Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, the Daily Commercial News, on the City of Kitchener website and the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System. Documents were picked up by eight (8) interested parties, and by the closing date of Thursday, May 3, 2012, four (4) tenders had been received. The tenders were reviewed by S.Shah, Design Engineer, who concurs with the above recommendation. The following tenders were received: Bid Price Corrected Bid Price Xterra Construction Inc. The surplus from this year’s work will remain in the account to be used for bridge rehabilitations in the 2014 program. Surplus funds from this account may also be used to complete emergency or unplanned repairs to bridges.
