BACKGROUND:
Transportation Services has received a request to review the existing on-street parking
regulations on Mount Hope Street between York Street and Eden Avenue. The request cited
that the existing parking prohibition on the west side is an inconvenience for residents during the
January 1 – March 31 time restriction.
REPORT:
Currently, on-street parking is permitted on the west side, for a maximum period of three (3)
consecutive hours from April 1 – December 31, while prohibited at any time, from January 1 –
March 31 on the west side and any time on the east side of Mount hope Street between York
Street and Eden Avenue, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-
138.
In order to address this request, Transportation Services surveyed the residents regarding a
proposal to allow on-street parking on the west side of Mount Hope Street between York Street
and Eden Avenue for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours. The survey results are
as follows:
In favour of allowing three hour parking on the west side: 7 (88%)
In favour of leaving the current regulation as is: 1 (12%)
TOTAL 8 out of 16 – (50% responded)
í ó ï
As indicated above, seven (7) out of eight (8) respondents, or 88%, are in favour of reinstating
on-street parking on the west side of Mount Hope Street between York Street and Eden Avenue
for three (3) consecutive hours.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including

neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

existing sign maintenance budget.
