BACKGROUND: Mr. Michael Saunders is planning to host an event, to raise funds for Canadian Women’s Beach th Volleyball, at his residence, at 552 Hidden Valley Road, on Saturday August 11. The event will include some music held outdoors. As such, he is requesting an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise). REPORT: Mr. Saunders indicates that his property already backs onto a highway which already creates a somewhat elevated level of noise. Nonetheless, he understands the importance of controlling the volume to minimize the impact of the music and will ensure that it is turned off at 10 PM. He will also ensure that his surrounding neighbours are advised in advance of the event. It should also be noted that Council approved a noise exemption for an outdoor event at this th address, that was held on June 9 of this year. Staff advise that there was a complaint received, however staff felt that the noise was not unreasonable and the event organizer was cooperative in ensuring compliance with the approved hours of the exemption. ê ó ï ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The aforementioned amendments support the Community Priority of Quality of Life, as contained in the City’s Strategic Plan. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: N/A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: As this is a private event, there is no large degree of community engagement required. However, the property owner will ensure that his adjacent neighbours are advised of the event in advance. ACKNOWLEDGED BY: Mike Seiling, Interim Deputy CAO, Community Services Department ê ó î
