BACKGROUND: Transportation Services has received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Helena Feasby Street between Max Becker Drive and Riehm Street. The request cited concerns about vehicles parking on both sides of Helena Feasby Street, in the area of Goodlife Fitness, creating difficulties for safe two-way traffic to negotiate, as well as presenting a barrier to emergency service vehicles. REPORT: Currently, on-street parking is permitted on both sides of Helena Feasby Street for a maximum of three (3) hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138. In order to address this request, Transportation Services notified the businesses along Max Becker Drive near Helena Feasby Street, as well as the two residents with properties abutting Helena Feasby Street, regarding a proposal to prohibit parking on Helena Feasby Street between Max Becker Drive and Riehm Street. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” By working with the neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed. é ó ï FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $200 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNICATIONS: In June 2012, affected businesses and residents along Helena Feasby Street were notified regarding the proposed parking changes. One resident contacted us indicating their support for the proposal.
