SUBJECT: Noise Exemption Request -Kitchener Portuguese Club
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be
granted to the Kitchener Portuguese Club for a mass celebration at their church located
at 300 Simeon Street, on September 1, 2012 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and September 2,
2012, from 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m..
BACKGROUND:
The Kitchener Portuguese Club is organizing a candlelight procession as part of their lady of
Fatima celebration, at 300 Simeon Street on Saturday September 1St and Sunday September
2nd The procession will be held outdoors on the Church property. As such, they have applied
for an exemption from Chapter 450 (Noise).
REPORT:
In previous years, the Kitchener Portuguese Club has celebrated this event with an outdoor
festival at their club on Fischer Hallman Road. This year, their celebration will consist of a
candlelight procession on their Church grounds.
Staff do not anticipate any significant noise concerns with this event.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
The aforementioned amendments support the Community Priority of Quality of Life, as
contained in the City's Strategic Plan.
