BACKGROUND: In 2008, Council approved the establishment of a nominating committee whose mandate was to review applications for appointments to the various advisory committees of Council and compile a suggested list of suitable candidates for each committee. In addition, the committee was to review the recruitment process and advise on any improvements that could be made to increase the number of applicants from a cross-section of the community. The previous committee did undertake a process review, made recommendations of which all were implemented and in 2008 and 2010, compiled a suggested list of candidates.
