SUBJECT:
T12-061 Interior Renovations - 9Floor City Hall
RECOMMENDATION:
th
Onit
That Tender T12-061 Interior Renovations - 9Floor City Hall, be awarded to
Construction Inc., Caledon, Ontario
at their tendered price of $134,855., including provisional
items and contingencies of $60,000., plus H.S.T. of $17,531.15, for a total of $152,386.15.
BACKGROUND:
When City Hall was constructed in 1991, a portion of the foundation/building was designed to
accommodate an addition for future growth. In recent years, we have reached capacity on
some floors. Many divisions have staff members spread across a number of floors. In 2010,
following a re-location of a number of staff to the new Kitchener Operations Facility, staff
reviewed options to renovate interior space to accommodate staff and gain efficiencies.
Ensuring we are maximizing interior space, through a more open concept design, is the
preferred solution to exploring an addition to the building. This solution is following the practice
th
of the 8 floor design and the Kitchener Operations Facility interior office space design.
As part of the ongoing City Hall Space Accommodation project, we are planning to proceed with
th
Floor (Engineering Services). This project will allow divisional staff
interior renovations to the 9
to be stationed in closer proximity, leading to an increased efficiency of work flow and
strengthened communications.
