BACKGROUND: Concrete and asphalt materials removed from City projects are stockpiled at the Battler Yards and when sufficient quantities are available, the City contracts for the crushing of the materials. Product is then inventoried for use on various City projects as required. The benefits of this process are that materials can be re-used rather than paying for disposal, there are less costly materials available for City projects and the re-use of the materials is environmentally responsible. REPORT: The tender was advertised publicly on the Internet through the City of Kitchener website the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System. Documents were downloaded by ten (10) interested parties, and by the closing date of Thursday October 18, 2012, seven (7) tenders had been received. Chesley ON $312,219.00 CDR Youngs Aggregates Inc Pontypool ON $400,302.50 ï ·ª÷ ó ï The price for concrete recycling has decreased 8% from the previous contract. The tender was reviewed by D. Moore, Acting Operations Manager, and R. Zarin, Operations Supervisor, who concur with the above recommendation. The City of Kitchener’s purchasing policies and practices ensure openness, fairness and transparency in the procurement of goods and services. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The service cost will be received in the Inventory Holding Account against stock number 0908014 - Recycled Aggregates and charged out to various cost centres as used.
