LANE DESIGNATION – PIONEER TOWER ROAD @
SUBJECT:
BAXTER PLACE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the eastbound curb lane on Pioneer Tower Road at Baxter Place be designated as a
right turn only lane; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Services staff determined through review that the lane designations currently in
place at the eastbound approach of Pioneer Tower Road at Baxter Place are not reflected in
Schedule 17 of the Uniform Traffic By-law.
REPORT:
Currently, pavement markings in the curb side lane display a right arrow, while the adjacent lane
displays pavement markings with a left-through arrow. Lane designation signs are currently
present for drivers travelling eastbound on Pioneer Tower Road approaching Baxter Place.
Formalizing these lanes designations will also allow for proper enforcement of any potential lane
abuse.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including
all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” By working with the
neighbourhood, traffic control concerns have been addressed.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
No additional signage or pavement markings are required.
COMMUNICATIONS:
No formal communications were required to legalize these existing lane designations.
