HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Minutes - 2000-08-21 SSPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES AUGUST 21, 2000 CITY OF KITCHENER A special meeting of City Council was held at 12:10 p.m. this date and Chaired by Acting Mayor J. Ziegler with all members present except Mayor C. Zehr and Councillor J. Haalboom. Notice of this special meeting had been previously given to all members of Council by the City Clerk pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code. It is noted for the record that pursuant to Section 25.8.9 of Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code, Councillors G. Lorentz and J. Haalboom disclosed pecuniary interests at the in-camera meeting of City Council held July 31, 2000, in respect to two separate matters involving solicitor-client privilege. Moved by Councillor B. Vrbanovic Seconded by Councillor G. Lorentz "That the July 24, 2000 decision of the Dog Designation Appeal Committee regarding an appeal filed by Imtiaz Rahaman, wherein the Committee affirms the Prohibited Dog designation, be ratified and confirmed." - and - "That the July 24, 2000 decision of the Dog Designation Appeal Committee regarding an appeal filed by Jessica Campbell, wherein the Committee rescinds the Dangerous Dog designation and re-designates the dog as Potentially Dangerous, be ratified and confirmed." Carried. Council was in receipt of Business and Planning Services Department report BPS-00-096 (R. Morgan/K. Bissell/G. Borovilos), dated July 26, 2000, recommending acceptance of the offer of Precision Robotics Inc. to purchase Site 75 in the Huron Business Park. Moved by Councillor B. Vrbanovic Seconded by Councillor M. Yantzi "That Council accept the Offer to Purchase from 737333 Ontario Inc., the holding company for Precision Robotic Instruments Inc., for Part 10 of Reference Plan 58R-5456, being a parcel of land of approximately 5.18 acres in the Huron Business Park, at the offering price of $70,000. per acre for a total purchase price of $362,600.; and further, That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to execute any necessary documentation required by the City Solicitor." Carried. Council was asked to consider a recommendation to ratify prior approval of a request to declare the reception and dinner of the RCMP Musical Ride 2000 as an event of municipal significance. Moved by Councillor C. Weylie Seconded by Councillor K. Taylor-Harrison "That the RCMP Musical Ride 2000 reception and dinner to be held at the Doon Campus Auditorium of Conestoga College on August 12, 2000, be designated as an event of Municipal Significance." Carried. Council was advised of three additional items for in-camera discussion this date, two involving personal matters and a third matter subject to solicitor-client privilege. Taylor-Harrison "That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held immediately following this special meeting to consider a labour relations matter, a land acquisition matter, three personal matters and five matters subject to solicitor-client privilege." - and - "That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held in the Caucus Room on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, to consider a matter subject to solicitor-client privilege." Carried. On motion, the meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m. MAYOR CLERK
