ON-STREET PARKING REGULATIONS - COLLEGE
SUBJECT:
STREET
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That a 30 minute parking time limit be implemented on College Street from a point 26
meters north of King Street to a point 16 meters north thereof; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Services has received a request from a local business to review the existing on-
street parking regulations on College Street between King Street and Duke Street.
A request has been made to convert two (2) on-street parking spaces on College Street to a 30
minute parking time limit area. This proposal will provide customers of businesses in the area
with a dedicated area for drop offs and pickups. Furthermore, it will also provide an area for
delivery vehicles in order to process deliveries to local businesses.
REPORT:
Currently on-street parking is permitted on the east side of College Street from a point 26 meters
north of King Street to a point 30 meters south of Duke Street, for up to two (2) consecutive hours
6 a.m. to 12 midnight with no re-parking within five (5) hours of initial parking, as outlined in the
City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138.
In order to address this request, Transportation Services sent a notification letter to the
respective businesses in the vicinity, regarding a proposal to convert two (2) on-street parking
spaces to a short term parking area for drop offs, pickups and deliveries.

ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. “Work with partners, including
all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community.” By working with the
neighbourhood and Grand River Transit, on-street parking concerns have been addressed.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for sign installation for the roadway is $300 and will be taken from the
existing sign maintenance budget.
COMMUNICATIONS:
In May 2013, affected businesses in the area of College Street and King Street, were notified
regarding the proposed parking changes. There were no concerns from the businesses
regarding this proposal. No concerns with this proposal were raised.
