Strategic Directions to Focus On:
1) Nurture a Sense of Pride and Community
We are our own best-
Encourage stories and celebrations.
-Share our stories and promote what resources, programs and supports are av
-Increase awareness of what is happening in our neighbourhoods
-Support neighbourhood associations in promoting programs
-Increase community engagement
-Find out: What DOES the community want?
-Increase a sense that they belong to the community and have a se
-Increase a sense of place and belonging
2) Offer Ample Opportunities for Inclusion
Inclusion means ensuring city services are fully accessible to a
organizations and recreation and leisure programs are key.
-Move beyond just offering opportunities, towards increasing upta
-Ask:
-Focus on the groups who currently engaged with the city or city facilities
-Increase programming
-Make programs free and easier to access
-Increase marketing and promotion of city programs
3) Community Programs and Facilities
Access, variety and opportunity are so well appreciated stay on top of the trends and innovations and keep up
participating! (Balance tax approach with opportunities to invit
-Participatory budgeting
-More hockey/athletics programs and facilities to support them
-Include newcomers
-Offer sports/recreation facilities to support new Canadians
-Remember the small steps, too!

-How does a community know it wants?
-Who do we want to promote programs to?
-Make it easier to access space more affordable and invite newcomers
Considerations in Choosing Work Plan Action Items:
-Focus on increasing involvement and bringing people in
-Our diversity and the element of inclusion
-Overlap with other committees
-Must have some actionable items on the work plan
-Keep our focus on the neighbourhood level
-What does the community want? Where are there gaps?
-Perceptions of safety
