Approval of Minutes  The minutes from May 2, 2012 were approved with one clarification” “There is currently no system in place. Working to ensure it is meaningful and it achieves meaningful result. It is not very easy to find reports/meeting information on the current system in place on the website.” Clarification – This was in reference to the current City of Kitchener internet site, Committee and Council meeting information. Moved by Diana Bumstead, Second by Tristan Wilkin. 2. Update from Subcommittee The report card is in its final stages, and the group is very close to a final draft. Chris and Tristan will  present, with Shelley introducing the report card and providing a brief background. A draft of the newspaper spread was provided to members, although quite small, will be larger in its final version, printed in the Kitchener Post on July 3 to be shared with citizens. The Civics101 group is working to set up a meeting with high schools. No action has been taken with the  younger grades, James is suggesting that the plan be scaled back slightly from the original plan – with intentions of providing a tool kit rather than working through and planning with teachers on the project from the beginning. An item that was temporarily set aside when the Rotary group became involved was to write personal letters to superintendents, principals, and teachers, and with Compass Kitchener’s influence, encourage their participating. The subcommittee will meet again to understand if this is an option for the group to consider. Providing a tool kit is a great opportunity that many teachers will likely take to with enthusiasm. Connecting with school boards to find champions is also an important method of reaching the teachers. Subcommittee to consider further at their meeting Monday, June 25. Over the summer, the Voter Turnout group will be looking at a report prepared by an Economic  Development student. Also looking for information the Office of the City Clerk is preparing to further consider online voting. The group discussed Citizen Engagement, considering it in relation to Voter Turnout. Further, there is a possibility to have a student complete some original research for the city relating to Voter Turnout. James reminded the group of the Portland portal link he sent earlier in the year. Theron provided an outline of Civic Leagues which is something the group may consider further. It was also suggested that the overall decline in voter turnout throughout the country be considered, as well as how New Canadians participate in voting. LEAF community consultation is complete. The youth session received great feedback! The survey is still  up, and will be until end of June (now extended until the end of July). Online response is lower than expected, however this could be due to many different factors. Several community consultations are active at the same time, and many are receiving significant marketing. Connecting with people at the market was very effective, and allowed for good education on each of the options. A link to the survey has been sent out to Advisory Committee’s three times. When feedback has been received and compiled, Compass Kitchener will develop a report to council. This report should also provide feedback on the process that was undertaken. 3. Next Compass Kitchener meeting June 19, 2012 CITY OF KITCHENER - 2 - nd The committee agreed to cancel the July meeting, and move the August meeting to the 22, as the LEAF  Report is due to Council in September, and the committee will need to meet to confirm the report prior to this time. Theron suggested the subcommittees continue to meet according to their need.  4. General Business Nothing at this time.  Meeting adjourned at 6:00 pm.
