4.0Compass Kitchener Report Card: Tristan Wilkin, Chris Hyde, Karla Cote
Report card is a tool to evaluate the City’s progress on meeting the strategic directions set
out in a plan for a Healthy Kitchener
This annual process is currently being reviewed and redesigned to be more inclusive of staff,
advisory committees, the public, and Council. No report card this year during review.
Goal is to define measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to accurately measure and
reflect success meeting the goals of the City’s strategic plan.
Citizen input will define the KPIs (the things that should be measured to determine if
strategic directions are being met).
ACTION: ACAC to suggest KPIs relevant to arts/culture for use in the report card. Answer the
question:“What needs to be measured, and how do we measure it?” or “What would be a strong
measure of the work we are doing?”Email: Karla.cote@kitchener.ca
5.0ACAC Work Plan Report to Council: Emily Robsonand SilviaDiDonato
Emily introducedthe major themes of Plan for a Healthy Kitchener(P4HK).
Emily introducedthe strategies from Kitchener Economic Development Strategy (KEDS).
ACAC alignedthe work from the Music Works subgroup with P4HK and KEDS.
ACTION Items: Other subgroups to determine their work plan tasks and align with P4HK and KEDS,
then timelines and responsibilities to be assigned.

6.0Kitchener Studio Project: Silvia DiDonato
Project emerged from a recognition of the need for digital content creators.
To be located at 44 Gaukel Street in Kitchener (old post office). 12,000 sq ft, 8,000’ for
open concept gallery space.
Will integrate post-secondary institutions to create a hub of digital content creators,
streamlining the education process. An intersection between business, talent and design.
Provides the convenience of proximity.
Will feature opportunities for students of all ages.
Will be a hybrid between exhibit space, learning space and networking opportunities.
Community engagement is a goal.
7.0Light Rail Transit public art opportunity: Silvia DiDonato, Emily Robson
The Region of Waterloo has jurisdiction over station design. Cities have jurisdiction over
planning around the stations. The City’s 1% policy for public art does not apply to this
regional development

Next steps for Arts/Culture involve mapping the cultural assets within 800m of each station
in Kitchener. This information will assist in developing the transit schedule and determining
how the character of stations will be impacted by the nearby culturally significant places
and assets.
8.0Public Art Working Group(PAWG)report: Sean Puckett
Considered the city’s Artist in Residence program in anticipation of advertising a call for
entry for 2014 artist in residence.
9.0Downtown Advisory Committee (DAC) update: D. Morton
Considered Light Rail Transit.
10.0Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) update:Mark Derro
Considered Transportation Master Plan.
Discussed casino issue.
11.0Music Works update: Earl McCluskie, Silvia DiDonato
KOICon took placeon May 11. A music conference coming out of the Music Worksinitiative.
Very successful. Feedback was positive.
Graham Henderson of Music Canada presentedon May 9. Provincial government has
earmarked $45Mfor music initiatives. There may be an opportunity forMusic Works
initiatives through this funding.
On Tuesday, May 28 the Music Works subgroup will meet to discuss opportunities to access
the provincial funding for music-related initiatives. ACAC members invited to participate.
12.0Council report: Councillor Galloway
Plans for the future of Rockway Centre going forward to Council on Monday, May 27.
Planning Department took plans for Fairway Road extension project to Council. Will involve
a public art component.
Transportation Master Plan going to Council on June 17.
Councillor Galloway is relinquishing duties on Advisory Committees for a personal reason.
Another Councillor (to be determined) will sit on ACAC.
