HomeMy WebLinkAboutCSD-13-079 - Noise Exemption Request - Oktoberfest Events REPORT TO: Community and Infrastructure Services Committee DATE OF MEETING: August 12, 2013 SUBMITTED BY: Michael May, Deputy CAO, Community Services (519-741-2200, ext. 7079) PREPARED BY: Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement, (519-741- 2200, ext. 7753) WARD(S) INVOLVED: All DATE OF REPORT: July 25, 2013 REPORT NO.: CSD-13-079 SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST – OKTOBERFEST EVENTS RECOMMENDATION: That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to K-W Oktoberfest Inc. for a series of events being held at various clubs between October 11 and October 19, 2013, as outlined in the letter from K-W Oktoberfest Inc., dated May 9, 2013, attached to Report CSD-13-079. BACKGROUND: The K-W Oktoberfest Inc. is requesting an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City’s Municipal Code for a series of events that are being held at 9 clubs, during the 2013 Oktoberfest th festivities, running from October 11th to the 19, 2013. A copy of their request is attached. REPORT: Staff within the By-law Enforcement Division reports that the number of noise complaints relating to these events over the past several years has been minimal at best. Typically, there appears to be a large a degree of acceptance by City residents to these events, given their vast popularity and broad community benefits. The level of cooperation that staff has received from event organizers has been positive. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: Approval of a noise exemption request supports the Community Priorities of Quality of Life and Dynamic Downtown, as contained in the City’s Strategic Plan. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: N/A 1 - 1 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Notification of the fest hall events is done throughout the community, by the KW Oktoberfest Committee, through their normal course of business leading up to the festival.
